adventures in my profession

I graduated in 2006 with my Bachelor of Interior Design from Louisiana Tech University, Go Dawgs!  My education, however, started at LSU as I was pursuing my degree in physical therapy.  I found my happiness in design. Louisiana Tech’s School of Architecture was my fit.  We had a typical relationship, me and architecture school that is.  It was full of ups and downs, and left me wanting more out of the world.  I left with an extreme love, passion, and curiosity in the built world around me.

I moved to Houston in 2006 and worked for two very different companies.  I worked for a modern furniture showroom and a commercial design firm.  I loved my job with the commercial design firm.  Houston, however, was not the city for me.  My heart belongs in the south, I quickly learned that Texas is not the south I had come to know and strangely love.  I worked just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana designing, doodling, and everyday just trying to make it through and build a design and life portfolio I can be proud of.  This all lasted till November of 2009 when life threw me a curve ball.

Now: I pushed through, regaining momentum and figuring out just what the heck I was going to do.

I paint at home, creating whatever seems new and interesting at the time.  Some days it is custom letterhead and stationary, others it is carving potatoes and using them as stamps for fabric patterns, others it is canvas, and working on illustrations for my children’s book, I wrote ages ago. I do have a “real” job and it has nothing to do with the design world, but it allows me to truly enjoy the time I get to engage in the arts outside of work.  To me that is “oh-my-AWESOMENESS!”   I am occasionally doing some freelance design for people needing a bit of marketing.  It is a constant journey.

In a nutshell that is my “professional” story.  Any questions, just ask!
